Part of the Backlink Indexing topic guide. Use the guide to move from this specific question to the full diagnostic workflow.
Before you hand a batch of outsourced backlinks to a client, check six things: right target, right anchor, right quantity, still live, correct type/quality, and indexed. Skipping QC risks delivering broken work — losing money and trust. You, not the freelancer, are accountable to the client.
This acceptance checklist is the delivery-control layer of the Backlink Indexing provider hub, not a substitute for a dated Google observation.
For citation orders, delivery QC also needs an approved business identity. Use the NAP citation entity-matching workflow to separate formatting-equivalent values, material location conflicts and unavailable listings.
Why QC matters when you outsource
When you delegate link building, the most common mistakes are: wrong target URL, wrong anchor, short quantity, links placed on weak or dead pages, or cheaper link types swapped in. Catching these before delivery is far cheaper than handling a dispute after.
The 6-point checklist
- Right target? The link points to the exact URL the client requested.
- Right anchor? Anchor matches the brief, and the overall distribution isn’t over-optimized. (Check anchor distribution.)
- Right quantity? Delivered count equals ordered count.
- Still live? No 404s or odd redirects. (Bulk-check live status.)
- Right type/quality? Matches the promised link type and any DR/traffic threshold — no bait-and-switch.
- Indexed (or on the way)? Check index status — push or track anything not indexed.
Include a bulk broken-backlink check before handoff so source availability remains a separate, auditable delivery gate.
Escalate source pages classified as Soft 404 separately from terminal missing pages because the response and classification evidence differ.
Doing it fast on large lists
Manually opening hundreds of URLs isn’t realistic. List Verify reconciles the freelancer’s delivered list against the list you ordered (target / anchor / quantity) in one pass, alongside live and index checks — instead of inspecting each URL by hand.

After QC
- Passing links → deliver with a status report.
- Failed links → send back to be rebuilt.
- Not-indexed links → submit to a backlink indexer and track.
The QC knowledge graph
Audit each deliverable through separate relations:
order requirement → delivered URL → reachable final page → expected link
present → target/anchor match → dated index observation. A pass at one
node cannot substitute for another. For example, HTTP 200 does not prove the link
exists, and an indexed observation does not prove the contracted anchor remains.
What is the minimum delivery evidence object?
A client handoff should preserve the ordered requirement and the observed deliverable as separate objects. One row per placement is enough when it includes the fields below.
| Field | Purpose | Example state |
|---|---|---|
| Placement URL and final URL | Shows where the check began and where it resolved | Match / changed / unresolved |
| Target URL and anchor | Compares the live link with the approved brief | Exact / approved variant / mismatch |
| HTTP and link presence | Separates page availability from placement existence | Reachable + present |
| Contract attributes | Tests only requirements actually promised to the buyer | Pass / fail / not specified |
| Dated index observation | Records what the named method observed at that time | Observed / not observed / unavailable |
| Disposition | Makes the operational next step explicit | Accept / repair / replace / recheck |
How should a seller define acceptance before checking?
Write the acceptance rules before opening the delivered list. A placement should not fail because of a metric or attribute that was never in the order, and it should not pass merely because its page is indexed. Keep four independent decisions: contractual match, page availability, link presence and dated index observation.
Example report: “92 placements accepted, 5 require anchor repair, 2 redirect outside the approved destination, and 1 check was unavailable.” Keep unavailable results outside the pass/fail denominator until a recheck produces evidence. This preserves the buyer’s audit trail without promising an indexing outcome that Google controls.
Use the Backlink Indexing hub for the campaign-level workflow and the IndexVero methodology for observation limits.
Treat which backlink types index easily as a triage question, then verify the actual source-page evidence rather than accepting the label as proof.
FAQ
Does QC take a lot of time?
Time depends on batch size, evidence depth and exception rate. Automation can reduce repetitive checks, but unresolved redirects, gated pages and mismatched requirements still need review.
How much of a batch should I QC?
Define the sampling or full-review rule in the order before delivery. Contract-sensitive fields and exceptions should receive deterministic checks; any sampling plan should record its population, sample and limits.
What’s the most common outsourcing mistake?
Wrong target or anchor, and short quantity — exactly what a delivered-vs-ordered check catches.
